Orthotics are often favored by patients as an effective, non-invasive treatment. The effects of the orthotics may be felt within weeks of wearing them, but it is important to remember that this is a long-term treatment and orthotics may need to be worn permanently. See your doctor to find out if orthotics are right for you. Flat feet, or fallen arches , is a condition whereby the arch of the foot collapses, and as a result the most or the entire arch of the foot comes into contact with the ground, rather than having an original arch in between the heel and ball of the foot.

The most important way to treat flatfootedness is to get shoes that fit properly. You want to avoid shoes that don't have arch support constructed into their architecture. Flatfooted sufferers looking to engage in athletic activities should especially look for sneakers that provide a healthy amount of arch support. As long as you are hellbent on engaging in recreational activities with your flat feet, you can increase the chances of enjoyment by buying shoes specific to the action. In other words, get actual tennis shoes if you are going to be playing tennis. Buy running shoes instead of walking shoes if you plan on jogging rather than briskly walking.

AAF is most frequently seen in women, especially those who start out with somewhat flat feet or a pronated (rolls inward) foot. These attributes place extra stress on the soft tissue structures, along with the posterior tibial tendon and the ligaments on the inner side of the foot. Other contributing factors are diabetes , obesity, rheumatoid arthritis , and hypertension. People who play high impact sports may also develop tears in the posterior tibial tendon, eventually leading to AAF. Posterior tibial tendon dysfunction is more common in women and in people older than 40 years of age. Additional risk factors include obesity, diabetes, and hypertension.

I have fallen arches so I need proper support for my feet to stop me hobbling about with turned-in feet. I have those arch supports that you can slip in and out of your shoes but they're not really that practical for use with sandals. It's bad enough getting the stones out of your sandals without kicking your arch supports out too! I went on to Amazon and found a pair of Arizonas at a great price. I'd heard that Birkenstocks were really expensive but these were a very reasonable price - especially if they're going to last 5+ years.fallen arches wiki

Doctors will tell you to try to keep weight off your foot until the inflammation goes away. Also, apply ice to the sore area for 20 minutes three or four times a day to relieve your symptoms.

In most cases of arch soreness in distance runners, especially when the pain is close to the heel, the culprit is plantar fasciitis, or PF. The plantar fascia is a band of tissue connecting the heel to the ball of the foot and often becomes inflamed owing to the mechanical stresses imposed by running. This injury normally comes on gradually and manifests on only one foot. Other, less common causes include a stress fracture of the navicular bone of the foot and inflammation of the posterior tibial tendon, which runs down the calf and attaches to the back of the arch. The human foot is made up of 26 bones, 33 joints, and over 100 muscles, tendons and ligaments. The arch of the foot is created by tightening of the muscles and various ligaments that support the bones of the arch as well as ligaments that run from the heel to the ball of the foot. The arches distribute weight evenly across the feet and up the legs, and can affect walking. A well-developed arch is balanced between rigidity (for stability) and flexibility (for adapting to surfaces). If you are experiencing foot pain that is getting in the way of your running, before surgery, it might be worth considering orthotic inserts.
